“Retreat” can be defined as the act of withdrawing. While seemingly simple, the act of retreating is powerful + transformative. It is an act of radical self-care and absolutely necessary during this chaotic year. Retreats come in many forms but today I want to focus on the idea of a wellness retreat.

“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”- Audre Lorde

Wellness retreats involve withdrawing from the stress of daily life to focus on wellbeing. Wellness retreats have been a part of my life for the past 5 years as a means of healing + rejuvenation. Whenever I feel very stressed/overwhelmed, I know a retreat is just what the doctor ordered!

My first wellness retreat experience involved my going to Bali solo for a month to practice yoga, meditate, and relax in paradise. It was through that experience that the Fierce Reset was born! It was so transformative for me I even wrote an article about it in 2016 to share with others how to do the same (read more HERE).

That first retreat taught me the power of simplicity and subtraction. I eliminated the stress + anxiety of being plugged in 24 hours and noticed how much more relaxed I felt. I eliminated processed foods from my diet and noticed decreased IBS symptoms. I eliminated high intensity movement and noticed slower practices like yoga could still sculpt + define the body.

Retreats are all about subtraction aka removing elements and stripping thing down bare. On a retreat you eliminate distractions, Zoom calls, unhealthy foods, and unnecessary stress. The subtraction allows new space to open up. You’re able to hear yourself more clearly while shedding toxins, both physical and metaphysical.

Unfortunately due to COVID, we can’t gather for in-person Fierce Reset retreats this year. However, this doesn’t have to stop us from creating our own mini Fierce Reset retreats!

Not sure wellness travel is for you? Keep reading below for 5 signs that a wellness retreat should  be your next vacation.

1. You’re Stressed

We all know stress is a major side effect of overworking. Stress has harmful effects on the body mentally, physically, and emotionally. Taking a wellness vacation allows you to take time off from the stress of modern living. You can relax and focus on yourself.

2. You’re Craving a Different Type of Vacation

If you’re tired of spending your entire vacay hungover, it might be time to consider a wellness vacation or retreat. Vacations are obviously restricted this year due to decreased air travel so why not make your next roadtrip wellness centered? Wellness travel offers a break from the harm we do to our bodies and an opportunity to direct our attention to healing or improving our health. Instead of planning your itinerary around indulgent dinners + drinks, consider planning around nature or spa services when COVID safe.

3. You Need a Reset

A wellness vacation is the perfect opportunity to unplug and reset. Wellness travel is designed give some space between you and your daily life. This space brings the ability to recharge and gain a fresh perspective. If you’re feeling cloudy and unfocused, a wellness retreat is for you.

4. You’re Looking For a Shift

Many wellness vacations integrate mind + body activity to help you shed both toxins and limiting beliefs. You can find retreats focused on yoga, nutrition, meditation, or a host of other topics! If you’re looking for a shift, you can design the perfect wellness vacation to provide clarity.

5. You’re Ready To Live A Healthy Life

There is no better way to jumpstart a healthy lifestyle than immersing yourself in health and wellness on vacation. The break from our daily routine creates an opportunity to break unhealthy habits. Focusing on your physical health during a wellness vacation provides momentum to carry this focus back into your daily life.

When you feel better, everything in your life is better. Wellness travel may be just what you need to get yourself back on track. Stay tuned as I’m working on a guide for you to create your own Fierce Reset Retreat — COVID STYLE. 🙂
