Within the past few weeks, states + local governments have issued stay-at-home ordinances to try and mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Now that we all know we will be spending the month of April inside our homes, it’s time to make the best of our new normal.

The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.

The above quote is how we should approach this unprecedented time. As we live through the global pandemic of COVID-19, we are each being asked to cope with change — a change in lifestyle, work, and a change in how we spend our time. How will you react to this change? Will you resist? Or will you focus on building the new?

I believe this time of collective pause holds the opportunity for deep transformation. Our old mindless routines have been disrupted and we have the chance to create + design new ones. We can change not only how we show up for work, but how we show up for ourselves.

It may seem myopic to focus on yourself during this time but I’m here to remind you self-care is a must. You cannot pour from an empty cup and you cannot serve the world if you don’t first serve yourself. So during this month of April, I invite you to focus on taking care of yourself.

This post is full of resources for self-care during COVID-19.

Physical Self-Care

We have to take care of our bodies! Our bodies are a physical manifestation of our stress, tension, and stagnant energy so we must clear it. Below are some ideas for taking care of your physical body and HERE is a post for motivation!

  • Fierce Clarity Yoga: Yoga is hands down my favorite way to take care of myself. I’m doing Instagram Live yoga classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 9am PST / 12pm EST. Additionally, you can check out our Yoga For Work series for a WFH break. If you want to dive deeper, jump into our Fierce Clarity Yoga feeling-focused yoga™ series.
  • Beachbody On Demand: I’m sure you’ve heard of Shaun T! His Insanity program was my college go-to for getting in shape because the workouts require no little to no equipment and can be done in the living room. Beachbody on demand offers 14-days free and after that is just $13 per month which is a pretty sweet deal! My top recommendations would be Shaun T’s Transformation 20 program (I’m currently doing this) or  T25, or PIYO! Check it out here.
  • Nike Training Club: The OG Home workout app! Nike Training Club offers expert training programs that can be done anywhere. Nike is offering the app free for the next 90-days so it’s the perfect time to explore all of the offerings. Learn More.
  • Focusing On Your Diet: Eating a diet that includes fresh, whole foods provides key nutrients necessary to keep your energy + vitality + immunity high. Focus on eating fresh, whole foods and limit processed foods to keep your gut microbiome healthy. Consider making more plant-based meals!

Mental + Emotional Self-Care

Spending so much time indoors can leave you feeling cramped, stressed, and anxious. While feeling these emotions is natural, we don’t want to get stuck in them.

  • Journaling: Journaling is a vehicle of emotional exploration, a way to channel difficult feelings into healthy and creative outcomes. It is an opportunity to be honest with yourself free from the judgments of others. Being present with our thoughts + emotions through journaling holds the power to pull us from our head to our heart. • Meditation: Consider checking out Meditation Apps for Beginners and explore a few different apps. Meditation is the process of stilling + emptying the mind. There are many types of meditation but the outcome of all leaves you feeling more relaxed and less stressed.
  • Become Your Best Self: Channel your energy into the things you can control. Create a vision for who your best self is and focus on becoming her! Imagining and creating your best self is a mental + emotional exercise that is uplifting and inspiring.  Read More.

Spiritual Self-Care

I invite you to use this time during our semi-quarantine to reconnect with yourself and your Higher Power. This is a time of faith + prayer because all circumstances are outside of our control. Send healing + love to no

  • Just Being: Take a break from DOING and tap into just BEING. This collective slow down is the perfect time to turn inward. Read more HERE.
  • Prayer: Remember that all is well and we are witnessing a bigger plan unfold. Use prayer to talk through your worried + anxious emotions as prayer has the power to transmute our stress. Time to put the old saying “Let Go and Let God” to use!

The best gift you can offer the world is remembering to take care of YOU! You are here for a reason and we need you to be healthy + strong to show up for your community. Send this post to your girlfriends to remind them not to neglect self-care during COVID-19 🙏🏾
